Franchising the Internet soon turned a home-based business into an international corporation.

Quik International, founded in 1996, began as an idea for developing a faster Internet network than those available in the marketplace at the time. Jack Reynolds, president of Quik International, experienced the wonder of the Internet while using Internet tools to develop software as a consultant. He would wait for Web sites to slowly pop-up on his screen. This began brainstorming to create a faster Internet service provider (ISP) network until he decided to capitalize on his idea.

Reynolds began his design for a SO/HO infrastructure. He initiated development by using a T-1 line in the network, located in his garage. This began business, soon to be known as Quik Internet. To launch the business, Reynolds signed up his neighbors as access customers. He started having regular user-group meetings to share the information he was developing. His customers responded by learning and developing Internet tools that exceeded Reynolds’ expectations. He realized the network he began and the Internet-business model he developed was in demand. The user-group meetings became a tremendous catalyst for business growth. The Internet was contagious and local representation was imperative. Reynolds’ next step was to expand by placing ISPs, such as his, in local communities throughout the world.

He knew a franchise business model was the most effective structure to employ. Reynolds then sought and found an expert franchisor in Murray Mead, forming Quik International, parent to Quik Internet. Mead, CEO of Quik International, is the ultimate franchise business expert having spent 40 years of his business life developing and marketing franchise entities. He franchised swimming pools, financial services, hotels and restaurants.

During one of Reynolds’ user-group meetings, he met the third principal of the company, Dr. Griff Hamlin. Hamlin is a computer genius having worked for NASA in many top-secret projects in the early part of his career. He has experience as an Internet network consultant and UNIX administrator.

Hamlin joined forces with Reynolds and Mead to develop the heart of Quik International’s Internet system, Cheetah, the software that interfaces with Quik Internet’s infrastructure. The Cheetah software is a fast method of accomplishing browser-based operations. Cheetah software was the first Internet management software to operate strictly on the Internet, two years ahead of its time.

The first franchised Quik Internet site in Reno, Nev. went “live” in 1996. During 1998, Quik International incorporated a Master Franchise program to catapult its International growth. Quik International has close to 250 Quik Internet franchises and Master Franchises throughout the U.S. and 22 additional countries.
